It’s Crazy But It’s Real

I dare you to Google “How to Get Away with Burglary.”

You’ll see the kind of crazy results you’ll get from the search! It’s mind boggling what people can come up with these days.

You can say that I’m very well advanced in years. I’ve seen a lot of ups and downs in the global economy. And with every down turn, the desperate will turn to drastic acts.

Unfortunately, it’s the innocent, unprepared and the naive who pay the highest price. But that’s not you – I’m talking about your friends. Plus those who don’t know that kind of foresight you have.

With all that’s happening around us, it makes you think twice about your safety.

Good news is – you don’t have to be part of statistics. More about that later. For now, here some pretty known public safety facts.

According to Wikipedia, the following cities are known to be most burglarized:

1. Ohio, Cleveland
2. Ohio, Toledo
3. Florida, Orlando
4. Missouri, St. Louis
5. Tennessee, Memphis
6. Georgia, Atlanta
7. Ohio, Cincinnati
8. New Mexico, Albuquerque
9. Oklahoma, Tulsa
10. Missouri, Kansas City
11. Indiana, Indianapolis
12. New York, Buffalo
13. Michigan, Detroit
14. Maryland, Baltimore
15. Alabama, Mobile
16. California, Bakersfield

If you don’t live in one of these cities – good for you.
If you ARE travelling and staying in one of these cities – you need to be mindful.

However, if you DO live in one of these most burglarized cities, but didn’t know – now you do.

Question is, what are you going to do about it?

Here’s a few suggestions:

a. Be aware, but don’t be paranoid. There’s nothing worse than being too overtly expectant of things that could go wrong. Be wise, but don’t be extreme.
b. Be prepared and don’t be lazy. Simple things like double checking your doors before you go to sleep can go a long way. You may also want to add checking vulnerable entry points in your rounds.
c. Be organized. Set family protocols if a burglary happens when you and your family are actually at home.
d. HOT Tip: When setting safety protocols, put “Call 911” at the top of your list. In an event of a burglary, most people are either scared or too curios for their own good.
e. Intentionally make some noise. We can talk about these in a later discussion. But this is essentially installing a small alarm on potential entry points. These alarms are visually negligible but can surprise and disorient burglars in the middle of the act.

Oh, before I forget. Let me show you the pink elephant in the room. I wanna make this clear.
